Hello Steve,
First let me say I am sorry for your loss... I use this product very sparingly, prefering to give a diluted betadine soak to rid of mites. There are a number of things that could have gone wrong. Like what was said before rewetting of the towels could have released chemicals. Another is that scratches or superficial nitches in the plastic retained chemicals.
Another reason that many people do not think about is that each snake is a different being and as such can have different levels of susceptability to toxins and the like. It could be that the hognose that died were just more suscepable to a certain toxin found within the product... when talking toxins it does not take a large amount.
Like I said I prefer treating with a betadine solution (diluted significantly) and determined cleansing of the enclosure... a safe way is boiling water. Mites are killed at temps higher than 130-135 degrees.
Again sorry for your loss,
Charles
:I have a mild case of mites. After doing the research, I picked this product. I followed the direction ( I thought). Sprayed shoe boxes lined with paper towels after removing snakes and water bowls. I waited 24 hours to be sure all was dry, that was three days ago. Bottom line is that I now have THREE DEAD western hognose! Two pueblan milks seem to be OK.
:Can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong?
