You might consider some of the garters. They are active diurnal snakes, some will eat mice (some breeders switch them over when they are young by scenting pinkie mice) but mine always ate fish. If handled regularly they get quite tame. Most of the rat snakes I've had tend to only prowl around when they are looking for food (about once a week) and mainly at night. Racers are very active snakes but are some times hard to tame. Just some options other than corn snakes and king snakes...
