Green snakes eat insects, and are a pretty shy snake.
There are lots of different snakes that you could start out with. I would say just to surf the net and find something that interests you. Make sure you do some research on it. Not all snakes are for beginners, and if you have never kept snakes before, you may be best off going with a king of some sort. There are some kings that are pretty easy to keep and make good beginner snakes.
