I don't know what it is with this room, even before my computer was in here it had low RH. I tried closing the central air vent, opening the vent, and half-way opening the vent... I tried covering the room window with a thick black sheet. I switched my black milk to aspen as he was in the 20-30% humidity range. It got him up to 50-60 which should be fine.
(keep in mind I'm in Florida and having humidity problems!?)
I imagine its better in the summer, but the only thing I can think of is the wood paneling on one side of the room is affecting the moisture. Typically I wouldn't use a fogger system for a jungle cage, but in this case, I'm sure it will help. During a test run the humidity was up to 75-85%.
I was planning on using newprint for the jungles, but if I see any problems I'll switch them to over to aspen.
Thanks for your comments.
:Very nice looking cage!
:Just for general information, most things that create heat also dry out the air. Computers create heat, so the room that you keep your computer in will likely be a bit dry. Not discouraging you from keeping your JCP and your computer in the same room (I keep both in my study), just letting you know that it does mean that humidity is more of a concern. I finally raised humidity by switching to a substrate that held water better and now use coconut fiber, which raised the humidity from an average of 40-50% to an average of 70-80% with just a bit of hand misting twice a day.
