Hi Lori,
We noticed the same thing with our female snakes, all of them are different species, contacted a breeder, and found out if it was a male there would be TWO little protrusions (like a split penis, with 2 heads) that would come out, and she sent us a pic. When our females are excited about being picked up, we see a small single pink protrusion come out.(Which retracts after a minute, or two.)
If you are really wondering if you have a male, you can call in your local area to see if there is a good herp vet available, or inquire at the nearest zoo, if they would help you out, or find out if there is a snake breeder in your area. Would not try to sex your snake by yourself. As a general rule,(with some species), The male usually has much longer, skinnier tail past the rectal area. The female is usually shorter and fatter.
