Coal Skinks in NY state?

I am a keeper of amphibians mostly (lots of frogs) and I was reading about herps in NY state, when to my shocked eyes I found that there is supposedly a lizard (coal skink) living in central NY. Anyone ever see one of these? Wow, lizards in the same state as Buffalo, NY (land of the 7-foot snowdrifts.)..?
