Leopard gecko... should I get a male or female?

I was thinking of getting a leopard gecko, but I'm not sure if it would be better to get a male or female. I only want to get one, but I read that males shouldn't be housed without females. I'm also worried about the possibility of a female getting egg bound. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
