My phantasticus dropped its tail!

My poor little male phantasticus has dropped his tail for no apparent reason.
I found him a few days ago sat in his usual position but without his tail. I found his tail, there was a small dark mark on the middle of it but no other signs of damage.
I was wondering how their tails grew back, or even if they did?
