Giant day gecko housing: This...or that?

The day gecko I adopted is doing GREAT....he's active, has a heavy appetite, and has turned a beautiful green. He even willingly eats out of my hand....

What I have him in right now is a 20 gallon extra high tank. Basically it's almost two 10 gallons on top of each other. It has gravel bottom, seperated spahgnum moss, a shallow rock pool which his dripper goes into, driftwood & snake plant. ( of course, UVB lighting & a 75 watt night bulb, too. ) Alot of people said it was perfect for him, others said I should be a 60 gallon or larger. I never could decide, but I had this on-hand.

Anyways....I also have a 40 gallon long. I'd love to put him in it, but I imagine he wouldn't be as happy because it's only 16" high. Am I correct in that assumption?

One idea is to turn it over, so it's 4 feet high, 16" deep, and 12 wide. But I don't know how I would attach a door or get his UV lighting in there....any ideas on that would be helpful.

So, what do you think? Is a 20 X-tra high big enough?
Is a 40 long better? ( on it's bottom, that is. )
