I have a female one and she's great. I can pick her up and she doesn't mind a bit. I give her a varied cage set-up with one area kept dry and another area more humid. She likes to have a few different places to hide and eats very small crickets dusted with calcium twice a week. It's important to have a U.V. light so that she doesn't get metabolic bone disease. It's also good to keep a fresh supply of clean water all the time. Because I have an entire room devoted to terrestrial geckos I don't use heat pads, rocks or lamps. The room is a constant 87 dgrs in the day and 79 dgrs at night. The hiding areas for everyone are about 5 dgrs cooler that the room temp. If you just have one tank set up in a room then I recommend a heat lamp or pad. Hope that this helps.
