Usually they stay under for about 15-20 minutes but they can stay under longer if need be. About 2 hours even give or take a little. Also depends on the tempeture of the animal. It is believed they do this by having the ability to control were the blood flows. When not diving they send all or most oxygenated blood to all organs, when under they only send it to organs that need it such as heart, brain,etc.
