Ummm.. honestly I am not sure.. I have never used live plants in a reptiles cage... but I bet you could use almost any pond plants that you could use in lets say an outdoor koi pond? I don't think gators eat any plant material, so you probably don't have to worry about him eating them all... might need to find out which plants thrive with the amount of light you will be able to provide for him... i'm not an expert on that tho, and i'd def ask one of the others on here about the plants, they will know more then i do... but that's a good idea if you can set it up nice! i'd love to see some pics of it. sounds like you are planning / building a very nice setup for your gator!

:As I mentioned earlier, I am building my own... I'm going to have a small waterfall/river (keep in mind this is a tank style enclosure though) and I would like to have what Rob recommended, as far as cover in the basking area... However, I would prefer to go the live plant route if possible...
