ZAMBIA NEWS AGENCY (Zambia) 22 March 03 Crocodile kills man, 36
Samfya: A 36-year-old man of Chimembe village in Chief Kasoma Bangweulu's area in Samfya died early yesterday after being caught by a crocodile.
Solo Matafwali was attacked by the reptile around 0700 hours at Nkasa lagoon where he had gone fishing bringing the number of crocodile killings to four this month alone.
The body was retrieved around 12:00 hours yesterday without teeth and the private parts in a bizzare circumstances making people suspect acts of witchcraft in the attack.
Meanwhile Chief Kasoma Bangweulu of the Kabende people has come under fire from his subjects on accusations of harbouring human crocodiles.
The chief who was in the area to attend this year's World Forestry commemoration event came under attack when the emotionally charged villagers picked the body of Solo Matafwali.
The villagers who wanted to dump the body of the deceased where the chief was sitting accused him of having brought the human crocodiles.
The chief however admitted that there are natural and artificial crocodiles but denied being involved or harbouring any crocodiles.
Crocodile attacks believed to be artificial have become rampant in Chimembe and last week a 48 year old man of Mpumpu village in the same area was burnt to ashes on accusations of turning into a human beast.
