pond liners

Has anyone had any experience with using pond liners in an indoor enclosure? How likely is a 4ft american ally to put a hole in it? I was using a rather large preformed pond and it formed a small crack in it (most likely as a result of lack of support), nevertheless I am a little salty about using a preformed again. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
