I have three common wild garters (two adult, one juvenile) that came out of hibernation early and were slithering around the school cafeteria where I work.
I'm keeping them in a small 5 gallon tank until its warm enough to release them.
The problem is, feeding them is a pain in the butt. I've been buying 30 tuffies a week for them and they don't seem satisfied. They tend to start hunting only 4 or 5 days after feeding.
Someone at the pet store said they could go about two weeks without feeding, but one of the larger snakes looks a little skinny despite all the fish he eats.
Any thoughts?
FYI I'm in massachusetts and the weather still sucks royally. It snowed yesterday and was like 8 degrees this morning. It looks like they aren't going to be released for some time if it stays like this...
