It is 10 - 12 inches long, red, black and white checkered but the checks are almost rectangles and bigger than a checkered garter. It lacks stripes of any kind and has a black and white pattern on its belly and lower lip. It doesn't spend a lot of time in water but it will only eat fish and has keeled scales. I'm almost certain it is a juvenile of some kind. I live in northern Oklahoma, eight miles from Kansas line and it was found in a neighbors yard. The snake is kind of hyper like a garter with big round eyes and a short snout in comparison to my rat snake. Any clues?
