in illinois, it is illegal to possess more than 12 of any species of native herp without a permit. there is a short grace period during which people can give away offspring to reduce possession back down to 12. it is illegal to sell any native herp (on a species level) that is WC, and if it is CBB and originating in another state, a state aquaculture permit is needed to sell the related animals.
