Garter ownership in New York

I didn't think you needed a license for keeping garters in NYS. However when I actually read the law I couldn't tell if a license was required or not. I thought not.

In the off chance I needed a license I sent in the application for "possess and sell" with the $10 fee. They returned my money with no explanation. So I called. The officer said that he sent a letter and that captive bred garters are unregulated. As long as you don't collect from NY and the snake was captive bred you don't need a license to possess or sell. Yea! :)

It is illegal to collect wild garters for selling or keeping as captives.
