Saving the Solomon Island Skink

Hello! This is the first time I have written to the German International Forum through kingsnake.com. I am writing to all those who love Corucia zebrata; a.k.a. the Solomon Island Giant Skink/Prehensile tailed-skink/Monkey skink.

My reason for writing is that I have been collecting names of indviduals who are willing to unite for the cause of saving this skink in the wild. Although there are many official groups making efforts to conserve many kinds of reptiles and amphibians, to date, there are none involved with the Solomon Island crisis. At least, there are none that i know of; certainly none with a popular following.

Mr. ALan Toon of the IHS, told me that he has had no luck in getting zoos or other conservation organizations to support saving this amazing, monotypic species and the remaining forests in which it lives. I find this preposterous, and ask everyone here who has any desire to save this species, to email me and offer his or her support. I am slowly putting together an organziation, or at least a campaign, dedicated to saving what is left of the Lowland Primary Forests in at least some of the larger SOlomon Islands. It will also be dedicated to improving husbandry and breeding practices in captivity, to any research which can better improve the overall situation for Corucia zebrata, and even just for people to share experiences with this wonderful creature.

Whether you are an amateur who has just acquired your first Corucia, or a professional with years and years of experience and scientific training, I urge you to join us. From my experience, it is clear that there are many people both here in the USA and abroad, who love the Prehensile tailed skink, but only a united front can give this unique species a fighting chance. No matter what anyone tells you...such as that it's too late or economically or politically implausible to help C.zebrata..do not give up hope! The only wrong side to be on is no side at all.
