They won;t eat something unless it's moving. Ranid frogs' eyesight only registers motion, and they either go after the motion if it's small, like a prey item, or flee away from it if it's large, like a hand going after them. That's how one is able to handfeed them, by remaining extremely motionless and holding a cricket or worm, when the prey item struggles, the frog goes after it. You remaining motionless are registered by the frog as a piece of the landscaping, not a threat.
