I have 10 american toads that I've had now for almost 4 years. All were raised since they were tads and fed and kept well. 5 I've heard chirp but no singing. I used a recording of wild american toads trilling to see if this stimulates them. It did but only at the first trill they heard and not every time that I played the recording did they respond. Sometimes they just sat there. When they did have a responce, they made an attempt to sing. The trill was short and sounded like a trial of what they heard but didn't continue. They will hop on the females from time to time, but the females never seem willing. They will try to scrape the male off using rocks and other fixtures. I've also got a large wide and not deep tupperware storage container as a 'pond' yet nobody is breeding nor singing. -Laurah
