I give my fbts the very small, skinny earthworms I dig up. I do this by waiting til the toad is in the water, and tossing the worm in front of him underwater. The worm wriggles wildly about, getting the toads attention, and he soon chomps into it. if the worm appears too long for the toad, you should cut it in half beforehand, because I have seen toads regurge too-long worms.
This all if you cannot get your toad to eat from your hand; some do, mine don't.
