That is permanent. The frills are so light and fragile that they tend to get torn up easily. In the wild you rarely see fully intact frills on adults. They even do it to themselves sometimes by scratching shedding skin.

:I just gut a frilled from a friend, and i noticed a small (just a couple of centimeters rip in his frill. I was just wondering if that is there for ever or just until he sheds a few times. It is white on the edges, if that helps any, and hes about 4-5 years old.
