i have successfully mixed species for a couple of years with no problems. these are the problems you have to resolve:
1) no competition for territory: try to mix arboreal species with ground dwelling species, diurnal with nocturnal, etc. and plenty of SPACE.
2)no competition for food: keep your animals well FED hungry animals fight.
3) no competition for mates: dont put males of the same species together unless there are plenty of female and territory.
4) only mix animals of roughly the same SIZE: big animals EAT small animals any questions?
5) dont mix poisonous/venomous species: they can kill other species.
