There's quite the variation with Garter Snakes in Oregon, particularly the Northwestern Garter Snake (see thread above). Here's one from near Corvallis. Definitely not the best photo but I remember this snake looking brown and orange in real life.
I'm not sure about this but I think Oregon (like Washington) protects all native species. In other words, it may be OK to take photos but not OK to keep.
