A friend and I herp a lot in Iowa and go to Kansas once a year to herp. We take pics and post them on our website, www.herpjournal.com. We do no collecting. We usually go last week of April, first week of May. In fact we are leaving on 5/2 for this years trip. Last year we tried, for the first time, to herp in the Gypsum Hills area of southern Kansas. The temps were in the 70s, but we found nothing really. Everyone we talked to in the area said we were too early to see Prairie Rattlers. We drove the oil roads during the day and hiked around some on a few ridges.
Looking for any tips or ideas on the best time of year or good techniques for this area.
