if your talking about the LI Pine barrens, you have to contact the DEC for A permit. they will not bother you if your just photographing herps without a permit, however you will need a land permit(free) though. you can handle and photograph herps, however because the Eastern Tiger salamander is protected that one of the herps thats one of the herps the DEC is concerned about


:This is probobly a dumb question, but i need a answer to it.I take it you need permits for some species, if you can collect them at all. I dont realy need to collect, just wondering, like if I were to see some thing truely amazing that you dont see every day in Western NY.Im mostly talking about snakes her, if that helps. Does it matter where I herp?Like, are most species spread all the way through the pine barrens? TIA
