Yes, several times to inland central and coastal Mexico. There are many fantastic places to visit and wonderful animals to see. I have used my "whole 9-yards" of photo gear (big backpack w/ camera and lenses plus Pelican case containing portable strobes and softboxes)in the field there and would be glad to provide tips. Mexico is pretty loose relative to where you can go and what you can do. I've caught stuff wherever I wanted to and never been hassled. I would strongly suggest, however, going with a local who knows the areas you'll be. Take your pictures, have a good time, but forget about getting any any sort of permits to bring stuff back; those days are long gone. Best of luck.
