We just got back from a random trip to SkookumChuck hatchery, and guess what we found? Breeding newts!

Here's the first one we found, I think it was female-very, very fat.


We also found a few others, some doing their yearly mating:


and several other newts sunning themselves underwater:

and something's den nearby the water:

Also went looking for snakes, but I don't think they are out up here yet. Didn't even find sheds, trails, or anything.

We saw ten in all-but I bet there was more under all that leaf litter.
