Jeff-

I have three types of tongs in my menagerie of handling equipment - Pilstrom style (Midwest's normal tongs), Gentle Giants, and Whitneys. For handling Crotalids (mostly what I deal with ) both in the lab and the field, whitneys are the best - hands down. Any of the tongs are usable in gentle and experienced hands, but whitneys do the job best. If I am using a small set of tongs (>24"), the gentle giants can be as good as the whitneys. Longer gentle giant tongs just get too heavy and cumbersome to use as effectively. You can check out the whitney website at:
