I hear this from time to time, but I'm not sure it's true. Properly fed rats don't seem to suffer any ill effects that I've seen, nor am I in a race to see who's rats live longest. When I cull breeders they go to snakefoodland. If you choose to give breaks, you will need to feed and house nearly twice as many rats. The only time I hold off breeding is when the freezer is too full.
