All my feeder rodents are fed on dog food. The problems people had were due to red dye in the dog food which you can easily avoid by making sure the dog food you buy contains no red dyes. Otherwise, I find dog chow, supplemented with sunflower seeds and bran flakes to be a rather good growth diet. And really you don't even need to buy the high priced dog food. I don't and all my females produce well, keep a good weight through nursing and birth.. and have no problem. My local store has a good cheap brand of dog food that all my animals save the lizards, snake and cats eat. And all of them are quite healthy... and so is my snake who eats my rats.
