In Reply to: It might very well be the substrate... posted by iwana on April 23, 2003 at 11:52:57:

I took them off the powdered substrate and put them on rolled oats with cardboard cup holders to climb on. I put some tropical fish flakes and washed spinach on the cardboard for them to eat. (Spinach was all I had until I go shopping tonight). They seem to be much more active on the rolled oats. I am thinking the other mixture was just too fine for them?? So I cleaned out my superworm bin and put the superworms in the powdered NUTRITIOUS substrate I made and put the beetles on rolled oats. I will see how that goes. If it doesnt work I will probably feed the beetles to my dragons and start over and next time use a bran cereal, oat mix. I dont want to keep bothering the beetles nor do I want to accidently get eggs on the floor etc. So I am going to try and leave this batch be, see what happens and hopefully I wont have to feed them to the dragons. Does anyone see anything wrong with using the rolled oats??? Thanks, LM
