I don't know their motives but I know that it is often when setting up a colony with girls pregnant by another male, and or that have newborns. Protecting their babies maybe. I found the best solution to these 'amazon' colonies is to raise one of their own male pups or give them a barely weaned male to raise into the colony. Otherwise they are very likely to eunuch them and kill them.
