Keeping superworms/is it them, or the egg carton that smell?

I ordered 500 superworms from lllreptile.com.

I put them in a rubbermaid tub about the size of a 10 gallon tank with oatmeal, and added carrot & fish food for gutloading. ( but they eat the oatmeal too, right? )

Anyways, I also put in the cardboard egg crates they came with...and man do they smell. Just like crickets smelled when I worked at a pet store....

Is it the cardboard, or them that stinks?

Also, what can I expect as a lifespand for these guys? AKA do I need to start feeding them to my fish, too!
