One of the reasons laboratory animals are so expensive is that they are disease free. It would be reasonable to expect that their immune system is not as robust, as they have been raised in very carfully controlled enviroments. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer.
I've always been of the opinion that unless you are raising a large number of animals as a business, any difference in production would be minimal. I regularly get 12 to 15 per litter per rat. I am keeping records now but haven't in the past. I'd be interested in hearing your experience since you will have had both.
