I've been thinking about expanding my rat operation. At the moment I use large food hoppers made of hardware cloth in my custom rat enclosures (rubbermaids). I also use regular 32oz water bottles. I was thinking of making a watering system so that I could just fill a large 5 gallon bucket every so often rather than filling the bottles every other day. I know agselect sells kits and such for this, but those seem over priced. Anyone out there doing a DIY watering setup?
I was thinking you could just use tubes and cap them with pvc male screw ends that would screw into the ends of the bottles. If that doesn't make sense think about how the bottle screws into the bottle-end which has that ball so the rats can drink from it. Well if instead of a bottle connecting to that, you could just have a tube with an ending similar to the end of the bottle. Then you could just have the tubes from each of the rat enclosures connecting to a large resovoir and just check the resovoir every so often. This would also make it easier for putting things in there water like vanilla, I've been meaning to try that too.
Just wondering if anyone does anything like this, it might end up being more work than its worth for me now because I've only got 4 enclosures, but if I was to build a rack, I'd probably want to do something like that.
