Some snakes do eat wet rats. My burmese and ball pythons will take a rat in just about any condition but my retic only takes dry prekilled rats. So i guess it depends on the snake! Drowning it would not really be a good idea because the rat would have to suffer for a short time. I tried it once many years ago on medium rats and it took may longer than whacking for sure!

I would recommend the whack over the drown!
