CNN (USA) 29 March 99 Frogs halt traffic on busy Czech road
Prague, Czech Republic (AP) -- Police closed a busy road Monday afternoon in south Moravia to give frogs safe passage to their mating area, the news agency CTK reported.
Traffic was diverted from the road along a pond near Brno, 200 kilometers (125 miles) southeast of Prague, to protect the frogs from being killed by passing vehicles, the agency said.
It quoted police spokesman Vit Cvrcek as saying police are monitoring the frogs' migration and will reopen the road in two or three days.
Hundreds of frogs are killed in the Czech Republic each spring while migrating to mating areas. A special frog tunnel was opened in north Moravia last year to prevent the killings.
