: I teach in a university model lab school. At the end of last school year, our classroom orange albino corn snake, Cobby, somehow managed to get out of his cage. I searched the entire school to no avail.

: About a week later I received a frantic phone call at 6:30am from
: our snake-a-phobic maintenance lady. It seems that in the dimly lit hallway, she spied "an orange extension cord". When she went to pick it up,it slithered away from her and she nearly had a heart attack.

: I sped over to the school, but of course by the time I arrived Cobby was nowhere to be found. So, I went home to shower and get ready for work. However, the maintenance lady called her supervisor, who in turn called the Pest Control department.

: Pest Control sent THREE men and a NET over to hunt for the snake.People present at the time told me that as they searched a storage room, they heard one of the men exclaim, "My,you're a friendly critter!". He then emerged with Cobby wrapped around his arm, and stuck him in the maintenance lady's face with the question, "Is this the snake in question?". She nearly fainted.

: He then offered to remove the offending creature from the premises, but was quickly told that if he did, the snake's human would hunt him down. Although he kept exclaiming how beautiful Cobby is, he put him back in his cage.

: It turns out that the gentleman who found Cobby had had a pet bull snake which had passed away. It just so happened that at the time Cobby and his mate, Maizey, had seven eggs in the incubator. In appreciation for his kindness (he didn't kill the snake like many pest control people would), one of the babies went to live at his house. A happy ending for all except the maintenance lady--another of the babies went to live in another classroom which increases the number of snakes in the school--ah, such is life!

FINALLY a snake that was found by an anti-snake person and not killed. Maybe there' hope yet.
