For some reason or another, my gopher snake got out this week. I have kept snakes ever since I could walk and have never had one escape from an enclosure. But, Wednesday yielded one very upset herper and one very nervous family. I tore apart my room. The snake had a mouse in her and was probably looking for someone to hide while digesting. I did the whole hidebox with heatmat on the floor. I woke up every hour on the hour that night to walk around for 15 minutes with a flashlight. Nothing worked. The next day, I get a call. The one place we checked that hadn't produced her was hiding her after all. She was in my clothes drawer, which had been open. Her cage is on top of my dresser. The moral is that once the snake is out, it may just be looking for the closest convenient hiding spot, so make sure to check everything immediately surrounding the cage area. Andy
