We bought and moved into our first house a year ago. In the process of moving in, one of our tank lids got bumped and our male great plains rat snake escaped. We never found him. We would find "traces" of him such as pinky mice that would mysteriously dissappear out of the breeder enclosures, a shed here or there. Once we saw him peeking down out of the attic (7-8 months ago) but were unable to catch him. We finally gave up and figured he had gotten out of the house. We're in the process of remodeling and it would be very easy for him to find an exit. Last night my bf and I were talking about selling the female seeing as the male was long gone. We decided to put her up for sale. As my bf walked into the other room to water the rats & mice, lo and behold there was the male rat snake wrapped around some construction materials! We managed to capture him and return him to an enclosure. He's a little thinner, but looks healthy!! An entire year he was gone! What are the odds that the day we decide to sell his mate that he turned up?
