Sunil, also a standard V student _ from the Venkateshwara School, in K R Puram in the City, was bitten by a cobra while returning from school last year.
Holding the cobra close to his shoulders, he ran all the way to his house. Multiple snake bites paralysed his left hand permanently, but by carrying the snake Sunil protected others from being bitten. He received the award for this act of courage.
The awards were presented by Governor T N Chaturvedi at a function organised by the Department of Human and Child Development, the Public Instructions Department, State Bal Bhavan Society and Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare.
"Child building is an extremely important matter for any country as the future of the nation depends on them," Chaturvedi said while inaugurating the celebrations here on Thursday.
