PRESS ASSOCIATION (London, UK) 13 November 02 Man bites snake
A man in eastern India is in hospital after biting a poisonous snake to shreds.
Babaji Murmu, from Mendhasal in Orissa's Balasore district was resting in a field when a cobra slithered out of a hole towards him.
The tractor driver caught the reptile by its hood just as it was about to bite him.
Mr Murmu chased the snake into the fields after it wriggled out of his hands.
However, when he managed to capture it the second time around he was attacked.
Mr Murmu was so angry at being bitten that he dug his teeth into the snake's body and tore it to pieces before collapsing.
His labourer colleagues have admitted him to a district hospital where he is reported to be "in a serious condition", reports Oriya language daily Pragativadi.
