Mike,
I maintain a large collection of exotic and native herps in my school collection. The school built the main enclosures and basically I do the rest. The enclosures cost thousands though and are very large. I have had success with the following and many more: monitors(savannahs and waters), corn, gopher, and garter snakes, burmese pythons, various aquatic turtles, bearded dragons, and some tortoises. I also keep some different herps on display like crocodile monitors for viewing only. Large monitors and pythons are big hits but you must obviously use caution. Undoubtably the biggest ambassador I have is my American Alligator who is universally loved by all, public feedings of this beast brings kids by the droves. I'm in Angleton Tx. If you are interested in seeing a large herp lab feel free to email me and perhaps we can set a time for a visit.
