Herps in School!

Hello all,

Some of you already know me. I am a college student in my mid 30's who has been keeping herps for about 20 years. I am due to graduate from NLU in December and will teach high school biology. My intent is to use herps to their fullest extent in the classroom.

I am adding a page to my web site that is titled, "Herps in School." Here I want to chronicle teachers' experiences with herps in the classroom. Some teachers have done very interesting and unique things with herps in the classroom and I want to share that with everyone. The first one that I am working on right now is about a teacher who uses them for lessons in many subjects and end the year with a VERY impressive function in which the whole school is invited to see.

It's stories (and photos) like that that I want to display on my page. If you have anything that you would like to share with others, please send my your ideas. E-mail me the stories and photos. If you don't have access to a scanner, you are welcome to snail mail the photos and I will return them after scanning. I will also provide links to you and/or the school as you so desire. As this is an educational page, I ask that links do not go to any commercial venture. There are no fees for me putting your information on the page. The purpose of this page is purely educational. I would hope that other teachers who view these stories can get some good ideas and put them into use. I think that this is a very good way for less experienced "herper teachers" to gain valuable knowledge. Animals of any kind can be used as powerful learning tools, but they must be used in the right way.

Please e-mail me if you have any useful information.
Mike
