This four-hour workshop, which can be applied toward four certification points, will introduce educators to the interesting world of herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians). A panel of experts in the fields of research, education and wildlife management will provide a variety of information and activities that can be taken back into the their classrooms and wildlife centers. During the workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn:
Which amphibians and reptiles live in Virginia
Reptile and amphibian identification
Internet sources available on amphibians and reptiles
Endangered species and the laws that protect these creatures
Habitat restoration for reptiles and amphibians
Captive care and handling of these animals
Live reptiles and amphibians will be available for the educators to view and hold. Each participant will receive resource materials to take back to their schools and centers. Participants are invited to stay after the workshop for the Virginia Herpetological Society's fall symposium on mole salamanders.
