Hi Jerry,
Can you describe the snake? There are several snakes that are sometimes called "grass snakes" because people see them around yards and vacant lots. Usually they're small, but sometimes it turns out to be a rough green snake (slender, green, stays mostly in branches and shrubs), sometimes a lined snake (gray with faint stripes, found under cover on the ground) or a brown snake (brown with one faint stripe down the back), and so on.
If you can describe the size (about how long and about how big around), the color and pattern, whether the head is much wider than the neck or is the head narrow and pointed, and what the snake's belly looks like (lined snakes have a double row of black half-moons down the belly), I bet we can figure it out. Then somebody will be able to give you some ideas about what it takes to care for it.
If it's a baby of some of the above types, it may be extremely delicate and difficult to care for, and the best thing might be to let it go where it was found, if possible.
