Hi JF,
Thanks for the great info and ideas. I have a lot of room for an outdoor enclosure (when I think of palm trees etc I am thinking more for the out side but I would like to get some good plants going for the indoor as well. I live in Northern California. This April it hasn't stopped raining but usually where I live in Northern California the main concern outdoors in spring and summer is to provide shade. I have a lot of reptiles and they should be spending long days out side, as I say this we have a major storm hitting again. The indoor enclosure I will be able to provide maybe 5 to 7 feet of floor space. I am sure I will need more but there is a little time as the Hybrid Cayman/Cuban is only 10 inches (STL)full length. I know how they grow like weeds though, so I have areas picked out where she will comfortable as I can make it. Thanks for shedding light on the protein issue. Chicken! lol this I have to see!
Thanks Steve

:Steve,
: where are you located and how much room can you provide. by some of the things you brought up, palms and big rocks, sounds like you may have a fair amount of room. this also means its harder to heat unless you live where its warm, which leads me back to my questions.
:Much more floor space than a green ig. These guys are not big climbers for the most part "ground pounders". A hide is important. Most cyclura are burrowers(is that a word). Cinder blocks work well, they heat up and hold it pretty well. easy to grab and move when cleaning and wear the claws down too. Substrate, I use outdoor carpet but a lot of people use newspaper, butcher paper or some paper product as it is the easiest for cleaning.
: As far as protein, I dont use it except about every couple of months or so I will take the scraps from a baked chicken and give it to them. no more than about 5-6 pieces. try that and watch your cyclura turn into a monitor. So I guess I use protein but not even 5%.
:Hopefully you will get more response 'cuz everyones setup and diet are different
