:Hi Dave, I dont have any spinys but I think I can help you. I would say that a 55 gallon tank would be minimum for a lizard that size and he will only get bigger so you will have to think about that down the road. Cypress mulch or pine bark mulch works well. Yes you need a UVB light like a reptisun 5.0 or similar in addition to the heat light. Leave both the heat light and the uv light on all day and off at night. You can use a heating pad at night to keep the temps up. I have seen how well the spinys do on Gasparilla Island in Florida and know the temps at night are in the 50s and 60s many nights so I dont know how necessary heat is at night. I would use the heating pad to be sure. Juvies will eat mostly veggies like good greens like collards, mustard greens, turnip tops, dandelion greens etc plus a mix of carrots, peas, green beans, squashes etc. VARY the veggies. Dont get stuck on one or two of them. Supplement this with some insects but dont overdo the insects. They only need a small amount of animal protein in my opinion.
:Any old container will do for a hide. Keep fresh water in there too at all times.
